Working together, they finished harvesting 18,463 bushels by about 5 p.m. Wollyung admitted he was shocked:
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw everyone show up to help. Photo of volunteers harvesting the Wollyung farm on November 12, 2016. Photo of volunteers harvesting the Wollyung farm on November 12, 2016. “I was talking with some other people at the farm and we all seem to agree that the worst things happen to the best people.”
Williamson added that such an effort is typical of the farming community. Tara Henry, a longtime friend of the Wollyung family, heard about the farming accident the next day. We all know Steve would drop everything to help us, and this shows everyone else doing the same for him.”
Fellow farmers brought food and other items before harvesting the last 112 acres. But we need to teach them that farms are a place where serious is work is done and it can be dangerous.”

-85.141075 It was emotional to see everyone. “Around Halloween, kids visit farms and play in corn mazes and it all looks so pretty and fun. They are a wonderful family. Unfortunately, I wish the help didn’t have to come because of this tragedy, but it just shows how much everyone values Steve, and how close this community is. He says the high turnout is just a reflection of the type of person Steve is. Friends and neighbors who couldn’t help in the fields donated sandwiches, soup, snacks, and drinks. An Indiana farming community came together to help a man who was coping with the death of his granddaughter. Word spread quickly and pretty soon more than 60 people from several counties contacted Henry about donating their time and equipment to help the Wollyung family. And with all the turmoil in the world right now, it felt so good to witness this. All of the support and the number of people wanting to help is just overwhelming. She called up Wollyung’s wife, Carmen, and asked if they were done harvesting. Henry told everyone what was left to do, they said a prayer, and they were out in the fields by 10 a.m. Steve Wollyung was preparing to harvest the last 112 acres of his farm on Nov. Carmen told her they still had over 100 acres to finish and weren’t sure how they were going to get it all done. 5 when an unthinkable tragedy occurred, according to WXIN. (Courtesy: Tara Henry)

Henry called a few farmers who had already harvested their own crops and asked if they would be willing to help. Steve said it would have taken him about a week to do the work all on his own. First responders removed Ayla from the grain wagon and she was airlifted to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. “He’s a very honest, stand up guy, and just a good community member,” Williamson said. 12. Nathan Williamson showed up at the farm with his semi to help haul the grain. The small army of farmers with their combines, semis, and grain carts gathered on Saturday, Nov. “But this truly shows the people in (Fayette, Wayne and Union counties) will drop everything to help their neighbors in times of need.”
Wollyung says he hopes that by sharing his story he can raise awareness about how dangerous farms can be for children. “Most farmers look out for each other and would do that for anyone.”
“The Fayette County area is often looked down on because the unemployment rate is high and there’s no money,” Wollyung said. After they had finished, Henry described the emotional day:
“There were lots of tears, and it felt so good to help them.

Patagonia to Donate 100% of Its Black Friday Sales

“This is a difficult and divisive time for our country. Patagonia already donates 1% of its daily global sales to environmental organizations — which amounted to $7.1 million in its latest fiscal year. “We definitely came up with the idea after the election,” said Lisa Pike Sheehy, vice president of environmental activism at Patagonia. “We all stand to benefit from a healthy environment.”

-119.229032 But this year, the outdoor retailer is giving away everything it makes that day. This year Patagonia will donate 100% of its global Black Friday sales to grassroots organizations working in local communities to protect our air, water and soil for future generations. The Ventura-based company announced it will donate 100% of its Black Friday sales — estimated to be well over $2 million — to grassroots environmental groups. By getting active in communities, we can affect local change to protect the food we and our children eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and the treasured places we love the most. And we can impact global priorities, too, by raising our voices to defend policies and regulations that will reduce carbon emissions, build a modern energy economy based on investment in renewables, and, most crucially, ensure the United States remains fully committed to the vital goals set forth in the Paris Climate Agreement. We will fight harder and smarter, and use every means at our disposal to prevail for the sake of the country, the planet and the wild places and creatures that need our voice. and around the world. A video posted by Patagonia (@patagonia) on Nov 21, 2016 at 10:27am PST

“This was a pledge the company made in 1985,” said Corley Kenna, director of global communications with Patagonia. For decades, Patagonia has demonstrated that caring for our planet is not in conflict with running a successful business. “The threats facing our planet affect people of every political stripe, of every demographic, in every part of the country,” Patagonia CEO Rose Marcario, wrote in a company blogpost detailing the Black Friday effort. This we know: if we don’t act boldly, severe changes in climate, water and air pollution, extinction of species, and erosion of topsoil are certain outcomes. I believe the environment is something we can all come together on. But the latest commitment tied to Black Friday was inspired by current events. The support we can provide is more important now than ever. To date that amount is $74 million. The organizations fight to protect vital natural resources like water, air and soil. … Environmental values are something we all embrace.”
Kenna said the donation would go to a large network of nearly 800 organizations in the U.S. We are here and we’ll keep fighting. These are small groups, often underfunded and under the radar, who work on the frontlines. The threats facing our planet affect people of every political stripe, in every part of the country, of every demographic. LoveOurPlanet.  We are always looking for ways to reduce our manufacturing footprint, including our company’s reliance on fossil fuels. We all stand to benefit from a healthy environment – and our children and grandchildren do, too. The move isn’t entirely out of character for the brand. The donations will come from sales at both its 80 global stores and on Black Friday. At Patagonia, we will grow and deepen our resolve to protect what we love. Patagonia typically brings in millions of dollars in sales on Black Friday.  We also fund grassroots environmental organizations by giving away one percent of our sales. But during a difficult and divisive time, we felt it was important to go further and connect more of our customers, who love wild places, with those fighting tirelessly to protect them.
